1. Introduction
The process of improving agricultural statistics will begin with the
integration of agriculture into the national statistical system. In recent years,
increasing efforts have been made towards achieving better integration of
statistical activities. Integration, in a statistical sense, means that each
statistical collection is carried out, not in isolation, but as a component of the
national statistics system . This is the groundwork of the second pillar and the

most significant recommendation in the Global Strategy to Improve
Agricultural and Rural Statistics (GSIARS) - to integrate agriculture into the
national statistical system.
